Tires
Tires, mounted and balanced on Pawtucket Avenue since 1939
Passenger, all season, high performance, light truck, mud, off road, run flat and snow tires from Goodyear, Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli, Yokohama, Falken, Kumho and General. Most installations are finished the same day, and if you have been quoted elsewhere, bring the estimate in and we will match it or beat it.
Chapter 01
What the tread is actually telling you before you buy
Every tire has wear bars built into the tread, small raised strips across the grooves that come level with the surface once the tread has worn down to them. Once you can no longer see a clear channel around those bars, the tire has stopped doing its job in the rain and the snow, whatever the rest of it still looks like.
Uneven wear tells its own story, too. A tire worn heavier on one edge than the other usually points to an alignment or suspension issue rather than the tire itself, which is why we look at the whole picture at the counter instead of pricing a replacement off the one tire you brought in.

Mount, balance and the road-force check
A new tire goes on the rim, gets balanced so the wheel spins true at highway speed, and goes back on the car torqued to spec. We stock sizes for passenger cars, light trucks and commercial vehicles, and most installations are finished the same day you bring the car in.
Patching, rotation and balancing all happen in the same bay, so a slow leak or a set of tires due for rotation does not need a separate appointment. Moving the wear around on a regular rotation is one of the cheapest ways to get the full life out of a set of tires.
Chapter 03
What the nationwide warranty covers, and what it does not
Products and services installed at BTS carry a nationwide warranty of up to 24 months, so the coverage still applies if something goes wrong away from Rhode Island. We will go through what applies to your specific tires and installation at the counter, since the terms vary by brand and by the work done.
A warranty covers workmanship and manufacturer defects. It is not a substitute for keeping an eye on pressure and tread between visits, which is part of why we check both anyway whenever a car is already up in the air for something else.
Same-day installation on most tires, and a price match on anything you bring us in writing. Call ahead and we will tell you honestly what today looks like.
02Wheels
Wheels, fitted and then aligned so the new rubber wears the way it should
Motiv, Cruiser, Cragar and Platinum rims, along with alloy wheels and a wide range of other options, precision fitted and then aligned on a John Bean diagnostic alignment system rather than judged by eye.

The pull, the feathered edge and the crooked wheel
A car that pulls to one side, a tire with a feathered edge across the tread, and a steering wheel that sits crooked on a straight road are three different complaints, and they do not all have the same fix. Telling them apart before touching anything is what keeps you from paying for an alignment that was never going to solve the actual problem.
What the John Bean diagnostic rack actually measures
Alignment is measured on a John Bean diagnostic alignment system rather than set by eye. The rack reads the angles the wheels are actually sitting at against the manufacturer’s specification, so the adjustment is made against a number, not a guess.
When it is an alignment, and when it is a worn part
Sometimes the wheels are aligned correctly and the real problem is a worn component underneath, in which case an alignment will not hold no matter how many times it is redone. We check steering and suspension while the car is on the rack, before we touch the adjustment, so the fix actually lasts.
03Repair
Brakes, and the rest of what keeps a car on the road
Axle and CV joint repair, exhaust, steering and suspension, transmission service, the cooling system, belts and hoses, starting and charging, engine diagnostics, and oil, lube and filter changes. We service all makes and models.
The noises, in the order we take them seriously
A grinding sound under braking means the pads are gone and metal is meeting metal, and that gets looked at the same day. A squeal that goes away once you’re rolling is usually just the wear indicator doing its job early. Knowing which is which over the phone is part of why we ask what it sounds like before we ask you to come in.
Pads and rotors: what gets machined, and what gets replaced
A rotor still within spec can sometimes be machined smooth again instead of replaced, which costs less. One that is warped, scored too deep, or too thin to safely machine gets replaced instead. We check the rotors before quoting the job, rather than replacing everything by default.
Why the inspection comes before the estimate
Brakes, axles and CV joints, steering and suspension, the exhaust, the cooling system and the belts and hoses all get a real look before we write anything down, because a car brought in for one noise sometimes turns up something else that matters more. You get an estimate to sign off on before any of it starts.

04Station 774
Rhode Island state safety inspection, Station 774
BTS is an authorised Rhode Island safety inspection station, number 774. Inspections run during normal shop hours, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

What Station 774 actually checks
A Rhode Island safety inspection covers the parts of the car that matter for keeping it, and everyone else, safe on the road: brakes, tires, lights, wipers, glass, steering and suspension, and the exhaust system. It is a functional check, not a paperwork formality.
The items that fail most often, and are cheap to fix first
Worn wiper blades, a burned-out bulb and tires below their wear bars are the small, inexpensive items that turn an inspection into a re-inspection. Letting us glance at those while the car is already up is the easiest way to pass on the first visit.
What happens if it fails
If something fails, we tell you what it is and what it will take to fix it, and you decide whether to have it done here or elsewhere. Since we are also a full repair shop, most of what fails an inspection at BTS gets fixed in the same visit rather than sending you somewhere else and back again.
05AC & climate
Air conditioning, diagnosed before it is recharged
Diagnostics, repair and recharge for all makes and models, plus the rest of the climate control system. Pricing on AC work changes with the season, so call the counter for what is current rather than relying on a number from anywhere else.
Diagnose before recharge
A system that has lost its cooling has almost always lost its refrigerant somewhere. Simply topping it back up without finding the leak means paying for the same recharge again next season, so we look for where it is actually going before we put anything back in.
What a real AC service includes
A proper air conditioning service checks the compressor, the lines and the charge level, not just whether the vents blow cold in the parking lot. The climate control system, and the belts and hoses that run it, get the same look while the car is already up.
The same habit that runs through everything above
Find the actual cause before quoting the fix. It is slower at the counter than guessing, and it means fewer repeat visits for the same complaint, whether the car came in for a tire, a brake noise, an inspection or the AC.
